Miguel A. Pereira

Director of Engineering, Sierra Space

Mr. Pereira joined Sierra Nevada Corporation (now Sierra Space) in 2013. He currently leads the Flight Software, Guidance, Navigation & Control (GN&C), and Simulations groups tasked with the development of the flight software, GN&C algorithms, and simulators for the Dream Chaser spaceplane and the Sierra Space elements of the Orbital Reef space station. Before that, Mr. Pereira was the Lead Instrumentation Engineer that managed the instrumentation and network subsystems flown during the 2017 Dream Chaser Approach and Landing atmospheric test at Edwards Air Force Base/NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center.

Prior to joining Sierra Space, Mr. Pereira worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. As a member of the International Space Station Motion Control System, he worked on Expeditions 25, 26, 31, and 32 and on the STS-119 and STS-129 Space Shuttle missions. Mr. Pereira also worked as an engineer and researcher at the center’s Neuroscience Laboratory, contributing to several ground and flight research studies that investigated the effects on the vestibular system associated with human spaceflight.

Mr. Pereira holds undergraduate degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Physics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.
