Simon Barraclough
Director Systems Engineering within the National Space Programs, Australian Space Agency
Mr Barraclough has over 25 years of experience in spacecraft system, thermal and mechanical engineering. Starting at Auspace Ltd and seconded to the UK, Mr Barraclough worked for over 17 years at Airbus Defence and Space as engineer and group leader for the thermal control systems on 15+ ESA missions, including Rosetta, LISA Pathfinder and Solar Orbiter as well as supporting and leading numerous studies for future ESA missions. On return to Australia in 2015 Mr Barraclough was lead thermal, mechanical and systems engineer for the Buccaneer Risk Mitigation Mission and RAAF M series CubeSats developed at UNSW Canberra. From 2019 Mr Barraclough led the Melbourne Space Laboratory nanosatellite engineering team at the University of Melbourne for the development of the SpIRIT nanosatellite, working with a team of Australian industry partners. Mr Barraclough recently joined the Australian Space Agency with the responsibility for the National Space Programs technical team.
